Power chords: Is used in almost all rock songs. As a basic principle power chords are played with straight eight notes over each chord. Use a pick and only down-strokes to retrieve the punchy sound. Palm mute: With this teqnique you dampen the strings with your palm. I VIIb IV VIIb progression: I'm sure you've heard this progression thousands of times. Instead of playing a IV chord with the root in the bass, you play a major third in the bass instead. This creates a nicer bass line and a very nice sound. Sweep picking: No matter how experienced you are as a guitarist sweep-picking is highly complex material that requires very much exercise. Use your pick to hit two or more strings on a down- or up-stroke. In the example below, 4 strings is swept.
